I want to use WP. I'm having trouble doing it. May I have phone support?
-
I am an author who has won honors for my second book. The Complete Mystery of Matthew Alcott. Fiction. I wish to publish various subjects and WordPress sounds perfect. I try like hell to get through your tutorials. At some point it always comes to a stand still as I get lost in computer lauguage. My dyslexia makes me highly creative and that presents a problem with computer language. May I talk to a human voice at WordPress or I am not adverse to paying someone that knows your systems to work with me. If you write back to me please do not use computerize. My phone number is [redacted]. By the way what is a widget? Michael Oborn. wwwmichaeloborn.com
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi Michael,
We can’t provide phone support, but I’m happy to help you this way.
A widget is like a little tool that adds a bit of functionality to your site. For example, if you add the Follow Blog Widget, it adds a small form to your sidebar or footer that your visitors can enter their email in to follow your blog. If you add the Recent Posts Widget, it displays a list of the most recent posts you’ve published in your sidebar or footer.
Looking at your site, the first thing that I notice is that you’ve chosen one of our most complicated themes. I recommend you try out some alternate themes in Appearance->Themes here:
https://mikeoborn54.wordpress.com/wp-admin/themes.phpFor example, here are some good for writers:
http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/pilcrow/
http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/typo/
http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/writr/
http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/able/Then, I recommend going here, and adding a post or two:
http://wordpress.com/post/It’s much easier to see how things are going to look once you have some content on your blog. You can always make test posts and delete them later.
Finally, you might check out these very simple video tutorials for new users:
http://dailypost.wordpress.com/category/video-tutorials/Here’s the one on writing your first post:
http://dailypost.wordpress.com/2014/01/04/publish-your-first-post/Those will probably be more helpful to you than the written documentation.
As you have additional questions, let me know, and I’ll be happy to help you out!

Dear Happiness Engineer,
For your help thank you.
Point me to a tutorial that allows me to post a picture of my book on to my WP site.
Freedom for women is one of my primary themes, I get interest from people in foreign countries where freedom is still precious. Can I target those countries, Africa, etc.?
I know this sounds stupid, but how do I find my wp site? I think I started a rudimentary site at one time.
Thanks.

Hi Michael,
I know this sounds stupid, but how do I find my wp site? I think I started a rudimentary site at one time.
Anytime you are logged into your WordPress.com account, if you go to http://wordpress.com/ , you’ll see a tab at the top that says “My Blogs.” If you click that, you’ll see your blog listed. Clicking on the title of it takes you to it, or you can click the ‘dashboard’ link just below it, which will take you to the backend of your site.
Your site is here: http://mikeoborn54.wordpress.com/
Point me to a tutorial that allows me to post a picture of my book on to my WP site.
To start out, try following this video, which will show you how to add a post to your blog with an image uploaded to it:
http://dailypost.wordpress.com/2014/01/04/publish-your-first-post/That’s the most basic way to add an image. Then, if you want to put your image elsewhere (such as in the sidebar of your site, etc.), take a look at your site and describe to me a bit more what you want to do.
Can I target those countries, Africa, etc.?
There are a number of strategies for that. The best way is probably to focus on building your traffic just in general. We have some tips for that here:
http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2013/03/22/seo-on-wordpress-com/Then if you find you want more readers from a certain area, you could engage with other blogs from there, write more about that area, etc.
