I want WordPress subdomain

Hi. I don’t want to pay for domain but I can’t get ahead of step 5 while creating my blog because it says to choose a domain name. I want a free wordpress subdomain like example.wordpress.com

  • Howdy –

If you type in the desired free, site address, do you get free subdomains returned from the search feature?

You can also skip the set up tutorial. Instead, click on My Sites – Domains – Add and try the free address again from there.

Write back if it does not work. Let me know which site address you’re trying to use.

I am with you on this, I want “xxx.wordpress.com” and it is never showing as a free option…

EVEN IF THE FULL ADDRESS IS NOT IN USE and does not exist ANYWHERE as a website!

In other words, the option SHOULD SHOW and it does not! I’ve tried tons of obscure naming options, found many that do not exist and yet the option with “xxx.wordpress.com” in the address bar is not showing in the list offered — only “xxx.home.blog” plus paid options.

    WHERE IS THE XXX.WORDPRESS.COM OPTION?

(AND I have tried going to “MySites-Profile-Add”… still forces one to the list with home.blog and all the paid options…)

Have you tried typing a word or phrase at https://wordpress.com/start/domains The free option should be below the two paid for options. You can play around with the offered free address (remove numbers/add a word) until you get one you’re happy with.

  • only “xxx.home.blog” plus paid options.

Just noting too, .home.blog is a free address. If you’re only seeing that, it’s likely that the site name you want is taken, OR you’ve entered a signup process that gives you .something.blog options.

If you’re positive the name you want is not taken, you should be able to start over and not choose blog. Please let us know whether that resolves the issue for you.

I tried out as well but does not show the sitename.wordpress.com if i want wordpress subdomain and not custom domain

  • snayakn, if you choose blog when setting up, it might only show .blog addresses just as a test feature. They’re still free.

But you might try choosing site or some other option like that, then trying again.

Also, if you visit the sitename.wordpress.com that you want, does it say it is reserved or does it offer to help you create a site?
