I was told if I updated to premium

    I was told that if I upgraded to premium, I would be able to upload my own theme. Now it says it has to be a business plan, which is not what the agent or the help center states.

    This feature is available on sites with the WordPress.com Business or Commerce plan. If your site has one of our legacy plans, it is available on the Pro plan. In addition to our collection of themes, you can upload third-party themes to your WordPress.com site, including themes from WordPress.org, popular marketplaces like Themeforest, and even themes you have custom-made for your website.

    Now it says it has to be a business plan, which is not what the agent or the help center states.

    All WordPress.com support documents say you need a Business plan to install external themes. However with the Premium plan you do have access to Premium themes but that means themes that are available within WordPress.com itself, not themes available to download or purchase from other companies.

    Hi @christopher54739, just confirming you would need a Business Plan or higher to upload outside code. Our service includes SSL hosting, direct WordPress support, spam protection, backups, maintenance, security, and other services and features that don’t come with the free software. As a service, we’ll have your back in ways that the free software itself cannot. Extra code like plugins and outside themes can complicate the service we’re offering, so we require the Business Plan for plugin installation.

    We do have several theme options built into our Premium service though. Or, you are welcome to use your own free copy of WordPress with another host, and use community resources or hired contractors if you don’t have time to take care of security, spam filtering, backups, support, and maintenance yourself.
