I was told on a Google Forum that I am not supposed to index "tag" pages?
-
I went to the Google Webmaster Help Forum because all of the “tag” pages associated with my blog post page are ranked very high but the actual page that is associated with that isn’t ranked at all.
The keywords are:
“Rebecca Watson” and SXSWThe blog page I am trying to find is:
http://culturecritic9.wordpress.com/2013/03/07/19/This is what shows up in search results when I look for my blog post page using certain keywords.
” “Rebecca Watson” SXSW rebeccawatson FTBullies feminism reddit …
culturecritic9.wordpress.com/…/rebecca- …Mar 7, 2013 – Posts about “Rebecca Watson” SXSW rebeccawatson FTBullies feminism reddit written by …”All of the results for my query are like that but none of them are the actual page.
Only a little while ago my actual page was one of the top ranked results and I know that Google had indexed the page because it shows up in results for other searches.
Well how do I deindex those pages? Since I guess according to the Google forum they were never supposed to be indexed.
My blog is http://culturecritic9.wordpress.com
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Your permalink has no keywords in it. There’s no point in hanging around Google forums if you can’t even put keywords in the permalink.
-
I don’t understand what you are saying. I hang around the google forums because I know absolutely nothing abou this stuff.
-
Anyways it looks like Google has changed the results so that my actual page appears in search results.
I would like to know how to deindex “tag” pages. Did I receive good advice in the Google forums? Why wouldn’t those pages be deindexed in the first place?
-
Well, no, not really. The reason tag pages outrank individual pages is that they have so many incoming links. I have several hundred posts in my “Cthulhu” category, for instance, and each of those posts counts as a link to the tag page. None of the individual articles has hundreds of links going to it, so naturally the tag page will outrank the articles UNLESS the article gets an incoming link from somewhere outside the blog. That outranks everything.
Here is some advice about keywords: http://raincoastermedia.com/2011/06/08/keywording-like-a-boss/
You can’t deindex tag pages on a WordPress.com blog. You’re going to get a lot of advice that is impossible to implement on a WP.com blog because we don’t have access to the php etc here.
