    I don’t have a site linked to this WordPress.com account

    The WordPress.com account you’re using to post here doesn’t have any sites with us, so you haven’t created a site yet.

    You’ve only created an account, and it looks like you did that in the process of trying to subscribe to a site via email, correct?

    If so, that’s fine – the account you created with us is completely free, and it will actually make it easier for you to subscribe to new sites and manage your subscriptions, from the page at https://wordpress.com/following/manage. You’ll also be able to read posts directly in the WordPress.com Reader, in addition to getting them in your email inbox.
