Hi Houstonweaver,
Thanks for your quick reply to my question.
I was aware of the topic you directed me to. However, once a blog is marked private the tick box is inaccessible so the blog seems likely to be private forever.Never mind, I can always create a new blog and leave it public.
Enjoy blogging!
Yours truly,
Peter -
I have switched mine back and forth so I know it can be done. What happens when you try to switch it? Can you provide the URL for the site you are asking about? The one in your link above is visible to me, so if that is the one, you have successfully made it public. Be sure to clear your cache and cookies.
And sometimes people set each post as private on a private blog but that is not necessary, so if you have done that you will need to reset each of your posts.

The URL is
http://kanaal69.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-privacy.php
but as the blog is private I think you will need my username and password as well…

I don’t want that. I have had no problem setting a blog to private then public.
Here’s how I do it.
Go to Dashboard > Settings > Privacy
On that screen, at the top, I see these 3 choices
_Allow search engines to index this site
_Ask search engines not to index this site_I would like my site to be private
To remove the private setting, you must mark one the the search engine options.
Be sure to save changes.

Let us hear if it worked for you.

Yesssss! I finally found how to do it!
I was puzzled by the fact that the tick boxes were all empty when I started. This made me suppose – wrongly – that it should be possible to empty all of them again once they had been ticked. Now I realize that I always have to choose one of them.Anyway, nice talking to you!
Thanx
Peter
