Hi there!
Third party plugins cannot be installed on WordPress.com sites. This is a security risk as we cannot vet all outside code and it puts our users, their sites, and our servers at risk.
Plugins are only usable on self-hosted WordPress.org sites.
I know the difference between .com and .org can get confusing, so here’s a breakdown of the benefits of each:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/Sometimes, even without the installation of a plugin, we can help you gain the function you’d like here at WordPress.com. For instance, you can add a slideshow using our built-in gallery function:

https://en.support.wordpress.com/portfolios/While McKinley is a lovely theme, we do also have more photographer-centric themes, if those layouts suit you better:

Thank you thatrobyn for the answer. I know the gallery function. What I need is a kind of curtain that let me show the before and after of a picture, in order to let the viewer appreciate the work of (photographic) postproduction. Here is an example:

Hey Antonio!
That link was very helpful.
Unfortunately, that type of slider requires code that we don’t allow on WordPress.com sites. If this function is vital to your site, you may consider self-hosting your WordPress site, so you have the opportunity to add code like the one you’re interested in.
Should you choose to make the move to a self-hosted site:
This guide will step you through the process of moving your site to a WordPress.org instance:

As we only support sites hosted here at WordPress.com, all issues with the new site – including the importing of the file – must be taken to the WordPress.org support community:
If you’d like assistance moving your WordPress.com site to WordPress.org, we have a service called Guided Transfer that does all the work for you. Check it out to see if it’s right for you:

If you have any other questions, please do let me know. If you want to stay on WordPress.com, perhaps we can put our heads together to come up with an alternative to the slider. It won’t operate in the same manner, but an existing WordPress.com might suit your needs.
Please let us know if you have any other questions. Thanks much!
