I Would Like To Disable Pingbacks

  • Unknown's avatar

I have disabled pingbacks in my settings and I have the option unchecked in my “options” on the new post page. Still, whenever I reblog, I see my pingback in the original blogs’ comments. Please help me disable this feature. I do not want my blog basically “advertised” on other websites when I reblog. If this is not possible, please let me know so that I can share posts/stories manually, with unlinkable links. Thank you.

  • Hi there. Reblogs always create a comment on the original blog post. The only way to prevent this is to not reblog, but rather create your own post linking to the post you want to share.

The Pingbacks setting also only determines whether your blog receives pingbacks, not whether it sends them. If you link to a WordPress.com blog that has pingbacks enabled, they will get one, no matter your settings. Your settings only determine whether you’ll get them from other people on your own posts. http://en.support.wordpress.com/comments/pingbacks/

The only way to prevent outgoing pingbacks is to use the shortlink when linking to another post rather than the full URL. You can get the shortlink by hovering your mouse over the blog title in the black admin bar and copying it from the drop-down menu that appears. http://en.support.wordpress.com/shortlinks/#shortlink-from-admin-bar
