I would like to stop mapping to my own domain

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi I would like to remove my own domain from WordPress site, how do I disconnect with my own domain?

You’ll need to change the name servers at your domain registrar. If that doesn’t automatically change your wordpress.com to be primary, you can set it as the primary domain here in your domains dashboard.

If you are looking for a refund for your upgrade plan, refunds are available for 30 days from date of purchase on everything but custom domain registrations. Here’s more on refunds: https://en.support.wordpress.com/refunds/

As long as you are logged in with the username account that purchased the upgrade, you can initiate the refund from your Manage Purchases dashboard https://wordpress.com/me/purchases

Once you have canceled the upgrade, you can view, print or email yourself a copy of the refund receipt from your Billing History here: https://wordpress.com/me/purchases/billing

Refunds usually take 7-14 days to process and show up on your statement.

If you have any question about that or need more assistance, please post back here.

  • Hi there,

Your domain, hoorayhotel.com.tw, is no longer connected to us in any way, but it’s still pointing to WordPress.com. You need to change the name servers at your domain registrar, as @justjennifer explained above, to point it somewhere else.

If you’re trying to go back to using your free address, hoorayhotel.wordpress.com, please let me know and do not make any changes to your domain yet. Because you had a Business Plan site using plugins, we’ll need to revert your site to how it was before you added plugins before you can use the free address again. I’ll need to temporarily reconnect the domain to do that, and then you can point the domain somewhere else once the process is complete.

    Thanks @justjennifer!

Hi kokkieh yes I would like to use my free address.
I’ve changed my DNS setting to not point to wordpress.

  • I’ve changed my DNS setting to not point to wordpress.

I very specifically said above that you should NOT do that if you want me to revert your site to the free address. Please point the name servers back to WordPress.com, otherwise I’m not able to revert your site.

This will also restore your site to how it was before you added plugins, including removing any content you added since. Please confirm if I should proceed.

Because you had a Business Plan site using plugins,

Sorry for any confusion I may have caused here. Given that the support request was posted in forums from the dashboard contact form, I incorrectly assumed otherwise. Again, apologies. Hopefully in the future there will be a way for us forum volunteers to know if someone is on the Business upgrade plan.

@kokkieh – Is the error message on the wordpress.com address a result of this problem?

Error: the domain you requested can not be served at this time. An error report has already been sent to the technical team. Please try again in ten minutes.

  • @justjennifer, no worries. These Business Plan sites become a bit weird if you cancel the plan, and there’s no real way to tell without access to our internal tools at that point, especially if the user had already pointed the domain somewhere else. Based on the info you had, there’s nothing wrong with your answer.
