I would like to transfer my domain name
-
Dear WordPress,
I use my blog(www.chico-spans.com) to display my portfolio, however I would now like to have a seperate portfolio website ( Hosted somewhere else ) , and use wordpress to keep people updated about my work.
However for my portfolio I would like to use the http://www.chico-spans.com domain , since I also have business cards with that website, and use another domain for wordpress.
However I can’t remove or unlink chico-spans.com from my current wordpress domain.
Is there any way to do this, or am I forced to stay at wordpress for my portfolio website?
KInd Regards,
Chico

There are a couple of different ways that we can make that happen. The easiest might be for you to log into your WordPress.com site’s dashboard and go to Store–>Domains and set http://chicospans.wordpress.com/ to be your “primary” domain.
Then follow these instructions to set set the nameservers for http://www.chico-spans.com/ to point to your new webhost:
Once you’ve got that set up, I can help you get a new custom URL for http://chicospans.wordpress.com/ if you would like.
Please let me know if you have further questions or if anything is unclear.

Thank you for the quik reply, the answer was certainy helpfull, however when I try to move my domain, the other host asks me to fill in an authorisation code.
Now my question is, where can I find this code?
Thanks in advance.

To obtain your authorization code you will need to go to your Store -> Domains page and follow the prompts you find there:
https://chicospans.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-general.php?page=domain-options
1. Look for Domain Administration and change the dropdown menu to “Transfer to Another Registrar”
2. Click the button “Next Step”
3. Enter a new password, putting it into both blanks (this is a new one you’re making up, so make sure to write it down)
4. Write down your Customer Number which is displayed just below
5. Click the “Save Password” button
6. Click the link for “Manage Your Domains”
7. Login with your customer number and password that you wrote down in steps 3 & 4 above
8. You will be prompted to create a PIN number
9. You should now be logged in and see a list of your domainsYou will need to select your domain, unlock it, and have the authorization code sent to your email address. There are instructions and screenshots here:
