  First of all, all websites on WordPress.com are free. What you would be purchasing is an upgrade to the free site. Here is a link to a page that explains those upgrades http://en.support.wordpress.com/upgrades/

  If you want to try an upgrade, look in the Dashboard>Store and see if the upgrade you want offers a trial period. You will need to log your credit card information in order to activate the trial period.
