I would like to use a subdomain as my wordpress domain
-
Hi,
I’ve got a custom wordpress domain. Here’s what I’d like to do, but am struggling with:
– use my squarespace portfolio site as masumi.me and portfolio.masumi.me
– use my wordpress blog as blog.masumi.methanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi!
Happy to help you get this setup. It looks like you’ve already tried to input some Squarespace details.
use my wordpress blog as blog.masumi.me
You’ll want to add a CNAME record as follows:
blog.masumi.me alias of masumidotme.wordpress.com
We have some instructions on how to do that here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-subdomain/#instructions-for-mapping-subdomains
use my squarespace portfolio site as masumi.me and portfolio.masumi.me
This might be a bit tricky. First, it looks like you have two CNAME records for Squarespace already in place. Let’s remove those using the trash can icon when you hover over the record like this:
Now, let’s point masumi.me to Squarespace by adding a custom A record:
You’ll want to point it to 198.185.159.144 as specified here by Squarespace.
Next, we’ll point portfolio.masumi.me to Squarespace as well. You’ll want to do the same steps as above but you’ll want to specify portfolio.masumi.me as the domain (instead of masumi.me).
Can you give those steps a try? It’s a bit convoluted, but I’m here to help every step of the way!

Hi!
Thanks for your help!
I’ve done everything you explained, but there is one step where I get a little problem.
When I do this “Now, let’s point masumi.me to Squarespace by adding a custom A record”, a message appears saying: “this record cannot be added, as it conflicts with an existing wordpress.com record” -
another thing, do I ignore the steps 1 and 2 ?http://help.squarespace.com/guides/mapping-a-domain-general-instructions#toc-add-a-records

Ah – I apologize. You will need to edit the existing A record instead of adding a new A record for masumi.me using the pencil icon here:
Can you give that a try?
another thing, do I ignore the steps 1 and 2 ?http://help.squarespace.com/guides/mapping-a-domain-general-instructions#toc-add-a-records
It looks like you do need those new CNAME records in place so we can leave those. Just edit the A record as explained above.

Great! I added one more CNAME record to help out with the www version of your domain. It looks like the following two domains are now loading your Squarespace trial:
portfolio.masumi.me
You will need to configure the site now on Squarespace.
The following domain is now loading your WordPress.com site:
blog.masumi.me
Can you confirm this is now working on your side as well? Please note, you may need to clear your browser cache for this to work:
-
I’ve cleared my browser cache, but http://www.masumi.me doesn’t exist here and portfolio.masumi.me is going to the blog.
But I guess if it’s working over there, it will work over here eventually, right? -
It seems to still be working on my side as shown here:
portfolio.masumi.me is redirecting to masumi.me (which is probably best – you want one canonical URL). I suspect this might just be an issue with propagation (it can take 24 hours for changes to full take effect). Let me know if it doesn’t start working soon!
