  On my social links menu, I would like the email icon to actually point to my contact page vs mailto:, however when I change the link I loose the icon symbol which looks like a little envelop?

  The email icon is triggered only by mailto links. I’m afraid if you enter a different link, the icon will not be displayed. The only way around this would be to create your own widget here:
