Icon Issue

joemel…please do not include links like that.

Contacting support staff directly by filing a support ticket is an option for every wordpress.com blogger who is having technical issues, as volunteers answering forum questions do not have backend access to blogs http://support.wordpress.com/ However, in cases like this where several bloggers are experiencing the same problem it’s important to understand that staff will be aware of them as they monitor the forum. Normally they will be more likely to devote their time and attention to troubleshooting and resolving the issue in the backend rather than expending their time answering the posts here.

    Thanks, timechief.
I’m not sure why anyone would need backend access for this type of problem, but if that’s the rule, that’s the rule.
As for the moderators, I ask because I went back to the posts entered in this “Support” section as far as two days ago, and can’t find one that has a response from a moderator. I had mistakenly assumed that there were moderators here who responded to support questions.
I think it would be best if someone would expend 30 seconds to insert a post indicating that they’ve seen the issue and are working on it.
My post has been here for over 13 hours, and there is still no resolution, and no member response indicating that anyone knows what the problem is or how to resolve it.
Beemeister has attempted to assist with helpful links, but the directions outlined by the author of the post in the link are sketchy and difficult to understand.

I looked at your blog, and I can see the icon (a bit on the unclear side, but it’s there).

  • Unknown's avatar

    I logged out and had a look – I don’t see it?
If it appears next to this post, I guess it’s resolved – if not, I’ll continue to request assistance :)

by the way, omarmodesto – how did you center the images on your blog?

  • Unknown's avatar

Oh, I thought you were meaning your favicon (which shows up fine). If it’s your (gr)avatar, try uploading it again. It’s never taken an hour for mine to show up, so five days is too much to wait.

To center images, simply select Center next to the Alignment option in the image uploader (or in the image settings, if it’s already in the post).

spiderphly the system doesn’t appear to think you have a gravatar – try uploading one here.

There seems to be a confusion over terminology … if it’s on my part, I apologize!
On my dashboard, the word used is “icon”.
Favicon … glavitar … I have a vague idea what those are, but I have the feeling that if I could just get my “icon” to appear, the rest of it (flavicon … glavitar … doohicky … dingleberry … etc) will fall into place.
omarmodesto – I already re-uploaded the image … many times (see above)
hanni – thanks for the tip and the link – I’ve followed all directions on the page the it leads to … now, I’ll wait to see if it has any effect.
One question … if that link is the answer, why would the dashboard not use it, instead of the method used there?

  • Unknown's avatar

Concerning the centering of images … I’ll have to go back to square one on that one … I insert images in the editor, as I’m typing the content … there is no option for alignment there, and wordpress does not allow the <center> tag.
When I use the uploader, there is not option for alignment there either.
Is it possible that you’ve upgraded your account?

  • Unknown's avatar

Hey, look! Your (Gr)avatar is showing!

As for image centering, you get this screen (click) right after uploading and image and before inserting it in the post. The alignment option is right under Link URL.

Alternatively, if the image has been uploaded, click on it in the editor and click the Edit Image icon. You should find another alignment option there (see here).

All right! Spiderphly has a gravatar now!

    Looks nice!

    I don’t see my icon.
Any idea how long it takes for the support team to respond to direct inquires?
I’ll assume that I’ll now be told the clear my cache … losing a ton of information stored in my browser that is very important to me.
This has to be one of the buggiest and user-unfriendly applications I’ve ever used.
I’m slowly moving my blog to another host. The wordpress curse follows though, and something about the wordpress blog file won’t allow it to be imported there, so it has to be done piece by piece … surprise … not.
Once I’m completely and totally frustrated with attempting to perform the simplest of actions using this application, I imagine I’ll just delete it all, and content myself with the other blog site, which works very nicely indeed.
Don’t get me wrong … I bet this is just great for people who just want to type words into their editor, running on a pre-formatted template, and click “publish”. But for anyone attempting to make the slightest of alterations, this is more trouble than it’s worth. Surprisingly, it does not have to be.

Okay, well, you know … good luck with that.

Can anyone tell me how long it takes for technical support staff to respond to a direct inquiry?

  • Unknown's avatar

They don’t always answer every ticket. They try to get to you within on day, however.

BTW, I just answered your other question Re: images
