I’d like to start a wordpress site but I already have a domain with GoDaddy
-
My domain name at GoDaddy is paid up for 10 years. I also have the privacy option with them paid for 10 years.
I’d like to start a free site, get it ready, move to a Personal or Premium plan, then plug in my domain.
But I’ve already paid GoDaddy for 10 years. So, can I keep my domain at GoDaddy? I can map over by myself.
If I transfer from GoDaddy to WordPress will I have to pay an extra amount when I’ve paid them for 10 years already?
How can I accomplish what I want to do without paying twice for the same domain hosting?
Thanks.

Hi ddatch54,
With each of the paid plans, it comes with a free domain credit you can use to either register a new domain, or transfer one you already have via domain mapping. So to answer your question, no, there will be no extra cost to map your domain if you upgrade to one of the paid plans.
You can read more about using domain you already own here
Hope this helps.

I’m not sure. I had already looked through that page and saw the free credit.
It’s those 2 options that had me confused. If I —
a. Transfer to WordPress – seems like I’d be paying wordpress after year 2?
b. Buy Domain Mapping – but there’s $13/year plus… fee? I’m pointed to this option by the link you supplied and also this – https://en.support.wordpress.com/incoming-domain-transfer/
What would I be buying for $13/year?
So which would I choose?
Thanks.

There’s an old screenshot on that page for mapping that still has the $13 mapping fee. It’s no longer applicable.
You’ve paid for domain registration, and the cost here will just be for hosting. Any paid plan will allow you to map your GoDaddy domain at no additional cost. Since you’ve paid for the ten years, it makes sense just to keep it where it is and map to WordPress.com hosting.
