Idea: Summary Posts

I notice that lots of folks make “summary posts” where they 1 post with a list of posts from a date-range, for example. In my case, I send out weekly email updates via email with a summary of my posts categorized by tag, in order of importance for general announcements and in chronological order of date of event for event postings. I know of several other non-profit organizations that do a similar thing. Based on what I’ve experienced in the amount of time this takes me every week, as well as what I’ve seen on other folks’ pages, I think that we would all benefit from a function within WordPress (or a widget/gadget that accomplished the same thing) that would make this more automated. Wouldn’t it be cool if I could set up a page with categories/tags as main topics, set the date parameters, and have posts within that range automatically be shown under their respective categories/tags? Cooler yet if there were additional filters that allowed you to modify the sorting order (chronological by date for events and some other way of determining importance for general)? There would have to be additional features within the post that allowed you to set different date options – posting date, as well as event date (I’ve long wanted this anyway, as it would make much more sense to me to see a mini-calendar that pulled up what events were happening on a given date as opposed to what posts were posted on that date – setting the post date to the event date postpones the posting and folks don’t get advance notice of the event!).
