Ideal photo size upload to gallery

  Hi
  Have just started ageing to use my blog and would like to know the ideal size of the photos I should upload to my gallery. I want them as big as possible in physical size on the screen but want the file size to be as small as possible so that I can get more in my 3GB allocation.
  The pixel size out of the camera is 2600 × 3888 and the generates a file size of approx 8MB. I have Aperture 3 and can resize image change image quality adjust DPI and change the format when exporting.
