Ideas For Promoting A New Food Blog
-
Hello People!
I’m very green to blogging. In fact, my blog http://www.theportlandpickle.com is hardly a month old. It’s mostly about food in the Portland, Oregon area with occasional recipe and restaurant postings. Does anyone have any ideas to increase readership? I’ve gotten several food related sites to link into mine. So, any advice from you more seasoned bloggsters would be super helpful!! THANK YOU.

Comment on other similar type blogs as yourself with your display name linking back to your blog. That’s what I did when I lost most of my traffic sources. Use tags so to end up on the global tag page if you’re not a mature blog. But no more than about 12 tags or else you can be kicked off and be considered spam. And pissing people off on other blogs and forums helps too.

I just looked at your blog. Simple advice:
1. Use tags related to your articles posted.
2. Create an account at feedburner and give people easy options to add your RSS feeds to their various kinds of accounts on Yahoo, Google, etc
3. Give people easy links to adding your posts to social bookmarking sites (this may be tricky to do per-post on WordPress.com as it will require understanding of HTML and probably URI-escaping characters)
4. Link to other sites/blogs
5. Turn off the snapshots feature, most people will find that annoying
6. Add RSS feeds that you can find which relate to the content on your site
7. Add some static/permanent page content to the blog, don’t depend 100% on articlesThere’s more you can do but those are the basics you can do right away

These are all great! Thank you so much!! I’ve taken the snapshot feature off—can’t believe I didn’t think of that before. And I’m looking into tage right now…
