Identifying Spam

  I am new to using the WordPress (blog created 4 days ago). Looking at my stats, it shows no hits for yesterday, however I had to moderate 8 new comments. I dont know how someone can comment without looking at my page, and does this mean that the comments are likely spam? Is there a good way to tell the legit comments as opposed to spam comments?

  Thanks, I did not know there was a difference…how confusing. I do use a 3rd party hosting site for my blog. The information link you provided did help explain the difference. Thanks so much.
