Identity stealer

There is someone checking out peoples comments, and then getting an email address in the same name as them and then leaving abusive posts in that persons name over wordpress. They have done it to me and two other people who have left comments on my blog. Their IP address is 71.218.24.10 They go by the name scramble@bramble besides the names they steal. I don’t know if wordpress can do anything about this person or not. The posts they leave are abusive and other wordpress users will think it is coming from the person whose name is used when it isn’t. Thanks.

It’s difficult to block someone by IP because it usually is dynamic, but it is possible.
My preference is to moderate comments and you can set it up for individual email addresses as well.

Not that worried about them leaving comments on my blog. They are using my name and others names to leave comments, probably on others blogs also. Thanks Jennifer.

Happy to help. By IP is probably the best even with its drawbacks, because it doesn’t matter what email or name this person uses. Barring that, if there are certain phrases that routinely appear in this person’s abusive comments, you can “catch” them for moderation by that.
