Idiots guide to adding twitter

    Hi there,

    I am not so great at all the technical side of blogging. I have searched high and low on the internet to find an answer to this and any help I have found is for an older version of WordPress. So

    How on earth do I get my twitter posts to show in my sidebar. I want the twitter box, not just a list like the twitter widget gives you. either this or a little twitter button that people can press to follow me on twitter. is is possible?

    I can get all of the code from my twitter site, no problem at all, but where do i copy it to in wordpress?

    any help would be very much appreciated, oh and of course, check out my blog. as you would expect, it is phenomenal/rubbish (delete as applicable)

    Cheers

    Clive

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    As far as I know there really is only the Twitter widget for wordpress.com. No other option.

    Check mine out, I think this is what you want? (The follow me button…)
    http://www.kymleemurphy.wordpress.com

    Step 1. Go to twitter.com and sign in
    Step 2. scroll down to the veryyyyy bottom of the page and you will see a list as such: (But horizontal)

    * Blog
    * Status
    * Goodies
    * API

    * Privacy

    Step 3. Click on “Goodies”
    Step 4. for the button option. Click, Buttons!
    Step 5.Choose a button and a window will come up saying “copy the following code into your website. Higlight code and Copy the code to your clipboard. (Right click and copy or CTRL+C)
    Step 6. go to your dashboard on wordpress
    Step 7. look under the drop down menu under “Appearances”
    Step 8. Click the “widgets” option
    Step 9. Drag and drop the TEXT widget to wherever you want your button in the sidebar
    Step 10. Paste the code into the body of the text widget. (Right click and paste or CTRL+V)
    Step 11. Hit save
    Step 12. Visit your site to see you brand new twitter button…

    As for a twitter post widget, I don’t believe you can use the twitter ones (javascript?)
    but the one on wordpress is great.

    Like I said, my sidebar has it so if that is what you’re looking for, the above is how I did it.

    Have a good one!

    nice one cheers guys.

    Kymlee, you are spot on with the button, I shall add that definitely, but what i was after a far as the twitter box goes i was looking to add the script from twitter, from profile/(You can also add Twitter to your site here) into wordpress in order to get their custom outline for the twitter box.

    i am sorry it doesnt make much sense, my technical speak skills leave a lot to be desired.

    :) now when you click “goodies” they also have a widgets section and those lists are what i assumed you were looking for, but I don’t know if they will work on wordpress, i can’t tell yet because my computer is being a little pain in the rectum and i can’t get that specific page to load to find out. you can try it. it would most likely be the same process, choosing, and copy and paste into a separate text widget here on wordpress.
    WP.com doesn’t allow javascript however, and even some regular HTML doesn’t quite work, so I don’t know if twitter’s customizable widgets will work at this site. If it does, let me know because I’d like that option too!

    Take care!
