IE 8 Links inop
-
Links are not working in IE8, but do properly in FF 3.6.25. For example on my Training “How to Read A Legislative Bill”
My site is http://fey0168test.wordpress.com/.
The specific page is http://fey0168test.wordpress.com/training/
Blog url: http://fey0168test.wordpress.com/ -
When I try clicking on those links in IE8, everything seems to be working properly for me. Could you try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies?
http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clear-your-cache-and-cookiesIf that doesn’t help, can you let me know specifically what happens when you try to visit those links in IE8?
-
I have deleted cookies and history as per the tutorial on the website. It works fine on two other computers that I have, so it is computer specific.
When I go Training and click it goes to the page, then the only link that will indicate it is a link is Drilling Down #2. The rest are blue colored text.
I have the exact problem on oregonabigailadams.wordpress.com on the Oregon Citizens Lobby page. The common theme is that I made four or five changes on that site also.

Are you running any add-ons with IE? If so, would you please try again with all of them disabled?

Hm, no good then.
Can you please try a different browser to at least rule-out a browser-specific issue?
-
You missed an earlier comment. It works fine in FireFox 3.6.25.
The only problem is the “~” at the bottom of the page is up menu the top menu.
Like I said it also works on two other IE8 machines running identical virus and firewall software. It was working fine, then stopped working.
-
I just tried reset IE settings in the advanced tab in options, no joy.
Still broke….. on this computer. -
That’s very odd to say the least. Any luck if you disable the firewalls or other security software?
Just because two machines are running the same stuff doesn’t mean that one hasn’t gone all crazy.

That was the first thing I tried. I will try and uninstall it, clean the registry and reinstall’
Let you know if that works.

I totally uninstalled IE8, ran a program to clean up the registry and i did absolutely no good. All the add-ons are disabled. Drilling Down #2 on my Training page does work. On oregonabigailadams nothing works under OCL, I can get there, but all the links are broken.
The only problem in FireFox 3.6.25 is the ~ is at the close top next to the menu bar. I can edit, view and interact just fine.
Do you have a dummy site I could go to with IE8 and try it? Somthing I didn’t create or have done any editing.
I want to rename fey0168test over to ocloregon. Does the rename process resolve all the embedded links I have to all my wordpress pages?
Thanks,
Fred -
We don’t have any dummy sites to play in, but you can register a new blog via http://wordpress.com/signup/ while logged in.
The rename process will not changes links within posts or pages. You’ll have to do that manually.

Since I have edited both the websites I am having problems with I wanted to try it against a “clean” site.
I sort of thought that might be a problem. But I also though wordpress could make the change since they know what to parse for.

If you choose to set up a test site, please let us know if you’re coming across the same problem there.
-
I found it — It is Compatibility Views under Tools.
Even though I selected do not use compatibility views in IE8 startup, it was set to Display all websites in Compatibility View.
Clearing that cured the problem..

I have a different question now. I changed my blog address and created a new user name to match the new blog name. The problem is that it still shows fey0168test at the top left corner of the screen.
How can I get that to reflect the new user name ocloregon?
Thanks,
Fred
