IE Accelerator won't download?
-
Hi! Tried to download the nifty wordpress IE8 accelerator, but I keep getting a warning “IE accelerator could not install – a problem with the accelator’s information”. First tried it on IE8 – but my IE8 install never seemed to work quite right so just tried it on IE9 on a Vista computer.
Interestingly, I downloaded it yesterday for a work project on IE8 on an XP computer — maybe an operating system issue? I love the feature and would love to be able to use it for my personal blog!
Thanks for any insights into the issue.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’m not at all clear how this is a technical issue directly related to using wordpress.com software and that is what this forum is for.

Plugins like the one you mention are meant for self-hosted WordPress.org installs.
For WordPress.com, you might want to look into the “Press This” bookmarklet tool. http://en.support.wordpress.com/press-this/

It is under “tools” in my blog dashboard, so I am assuming that it is wordpress feature, which is why I posted here.
On my work blog I was able to follow the link that is located in the tools section – it automatically downloaded and I was off running with the feature.
On my personal blog (different everything as mentioned in my first post) when I click the link I get an error message. Assume wordpress would want to be aware of the issue… but maybe not….
On the back end of my blog the link is under tools, between the tags converter and post by email if that helps.
When properly in use the Accelator opens up a “press this” window in one right-click, automatically pulling the selected text over with a link to the orginal source. It is simply awesome.
Thanks for the responses!

I’m looking in my free hosted by wordpress.COM blog under Tools and this is what I see:
Tools
Import
Export
Delete siteI’m thinking you may indeed be referring to a wordpress. ORG install

Maybe a little more clarification will help:
Both my work and my personal blog run on the free wordpress system – neither are on the self-hosted system. And as of yesterday I am using the accelerator feature on my work blog.
It might be more accurate to consider it a browser plugin that wordpress created than an actual wordpress plugin…?

The trick is being logged in to WordPress.com with IE8. :)
I see now what 850Music sees. Still haven’t a clue about it though.

Hi TT – while in the Tool section – click “tools” again – the feature is hiding under there!

Post with IE8 Accelerator
Use this accelerator to post an entry with selected text of any web site to any of your WordPress.com blogs
Add IE8 AcceleratorStill don’t see what this does that “Press This” doesn’t do.

Hi Jennifer – glad you found it! Means I’m not crazy. :)
It is really really similar – just less clicks for a lazy person like me. Once you use it – if you like the press this feature – you can’t imagine not having it.

https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/accelerator-for-ie8-not-working-1?replies=9 previous forum thread with someone with a similar problem, but not that I see a resolution there. There was as much confusion there as there was here. :)
There’s no Support Doc on it so I imagine that if you contact Support they won’t have much to offer in the way of assistance either, but that might be your best shot .http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/
As for me, I’m heading back to Chrome10. :)

Thanks for the links Jennifer!
I’m going to report it – if nothing else to make sure that the powers that be are aware of an issue…

LOL I did the same searching Jennifer did with the same results. I’m back to using Firefox :)
