IE security certificate error

  • Unknown's avatar

When I go to my blog site I get the following pop up message:

Internet Explorere has blocked website from displaying content with security certificate errors. I checked the forum and I see that it has something to do with the https: showing now instead of http:, as I believe I had it before. I don’t know what I did to have changed this, but I must’ve done something! I don’t want to continue “trying” things and make it even harder to use. Can someone help with this?

    Thanks!

Could we have a link to your blog please?

Also, consider linking your name to your blog. Go to Dashboard -> Users -> Your Profile and fill in the “website” box. This way the forum members will be able to help you more easily.

    http://avreceivers.wordpress.com/

Will do, on Dashboard -> Users, etc.

    Thx!

I went to Dashboard, but I don’t see where it says Users anywhere. Help?

Users is all the way to the right.

It looked to me that the Profile was filled out, but I added some more. I hope I added what was needed!

I appreciate all the quick replies. I’m sure someone will eventually be able to help me figure out what to next. I suppose I will just have to live with it until the correct answers, that I can follow, arrive in this forum.

    Thanks, all!

I have IE, and your blog showed up fine for me. Could it be a problem with your browser?

  • Unknown's avatar

I was quite sure it’s a problem with my browser, but it only started happening with my wordpress pages, and I don’t know how to fix it. I must’ve come to the wrong place. I’m not sure where to go, but I’m sorry for troubling you and I appreciate your attempt to help. Thx.

The issue has to do with an unsigned security certificate, presumably the one assciated with my blog.

If I knew more, I could do more. Not everyone using the internet for useful or helpful things has grown up using it. Not everyone feels safe revealing a lot of personal information in a public profile. Nevertheless, this is the first place where I know to look for help with a WordPress.com issue that I am having and I was hoping for more – sad to say.

My issue seems to have something to do with using https: instead of http: and I don’t know whether to fix it by way of my pc or with a control or setting used by WordPress.com

I hope someone is kind enough to be helpful with an issue that is apparently too elementary and uninteresting for most to bother with.

Scratch the last note. I think I’ve found an article that will help and I’ll close this topic when I’m sure.

Thank you to thesacretpath for the following:

[…If you’re using Internet Explorer, you can turn off those warnings by following these steps:

    1) Add *.wordpress.com to your list of trusted sites under the Security tab.
    2) Set Internet Options> Security> Trusted Sites> Custom Level> Miscellaneous> Display Mixed Content to “Enable.”]

I’ve tried the above and still getting the errors. It also rejects ‘*.wordpress.com’ saying that the address must start with https. Any ideas? IE7 is the browser.

russellpearson, I had the same problem. Here is the correct format to use for entering it: *://*.wordpress.com After you enter it then IE converts it to *.wordpress.com in the display window below the entry field.

Thank you for posting your December 8 reply, gettopbest. While my problems seem to be resolved after the changes recapped in my November 19 reply, I later found that I still had problems with https: issues. I’m trying your suggestion to russellpearson and I’ll report back when I’m sure whether this resolved the issue or not.

I finally got rid of the problem when I removed everything from “Trusted Sites” in IE7/Windows XP. I also unchecked the box (switch) that requires verification of all https sites. I still have other issues but at least this one seems resolved for the time being.

Before closing this topic, I’ll check back again to report if the issue is truly resolved. It’s tough being a neophyte, but we all gotta start somewhere.

Sorry for the mislead by posting from the article that it appears I’ve misquoted.

Thanks to all who have left comments and suggestions.
