If all I have is a blog, do I really even need a static front page?

If my goal is just to have a blog and maybe someday monetize it, do I really need a front page or not? The purpose of my blog is just to inform and share what I’ve learned with people in order for them to change the way they eat for optimum health. I do promote the fact that I use a certain brand of essential oils and might want to put their ads on my site but I could do that from my blog page or could I not? I guess those are my questions.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

A static front page loads more quickly than a post page, and can act as a helpful introduction to the site, perhaps including an index, a table of contents, or an image grid linking to various sections of the site. But, no, you don’t need to use a static front page.

Alternatives to using a static page as the front page include the following:
    1. Display posts on the front page as you are currently doing, but use an “About” page to introduce the site, and/or to describe the purpose and content of the site.
    2. Make the leading post serve as an introduction to the site. Any post can be kept at the top of the posts or blog page by making it “sticky.”

You may find it advantageous to use a custom menu that includes links to category pages. This will enable you to organize posts into various categories, and provide handy links to the posts arranged by category (and perhaps subcategory) in a header area menu.

    Correction:

Change “A static front page loads more quickly than a post page.” to
“A static front page would tend to load more quickly than a posts or blog page, particularly a blog page with longish posts and many displayed per page.”
