If I buy domain for my blog, do I get some kind of hosting for that money?

  Hello,

  I was thinking of buying a domain for my blog. However, I would love to have shell access to it and to be able to change source code, to add some hacks etc. Right now, my blog doesn’t allow that, and that is perfectly understandable, being free and all.

  On the other tag, I like the ‘wp bar’ on the top of the site, enabling users to auto-like my blog/posts, to subscribe etc. If I move my blog to different hosting (I have a godaddy hosting), will it disappear?

  Once again, I would like to have it all set up by wordpress team, if this is available, for a reasonable price ofc :)

  Each upgrade on WordPress.com applies only specifically exactly to what it says. The domain mapping upgrade doesn’t allow any additional functionality: just the use of Whatever.whut format domain names attached to your WordPress.com blog.

  If you move your blog to different hosting AND use the latest version of WordPress, AND install the new Jetpack, most of those features will be retained. THe admin bar on your independently-hosted blog will not connect with the community here, however, as your blog will not be a part of this community.

  You can always download the software from WordPress.org and play with it on your desktop for free.

  When purchasing a domain and domain mapping from wordpress.com you are getting a good deal. In fact you are paying less than most pay for a domain name and you are still getting free hosting. Also be aware that when purchasing domain mapping this is clearly stated:

  Not that it makes me too happy :)

  If that does not make you happy then so make the purchase.
