If I buy own domain does the old one work too?

  At the moment my domain is (blogsname).wordpress.com if I go premium / buy own domain that would be just (blogsname).com does the old one with wordpress.com also work? I have tried that with others wordpress blogs and some of them seem to work and some don’t. Is there some time limit how long old one works or some trick I should know to make sure that people with old link keep finding their way into the blog with new address?

  Both URLs will continue to work. The old one ALWAYS works; the new one only works as long as you renew it and domain mapping annually.
