If I cancel WordPress.com, will I lose my sites hosted on other hosting?

    I have 2 websites which access WordPress.com, but are not hosted on WP.com. I want to cancel my WP.com account but read that if i cancel WP.com then the entire contents of my sites would be deleted and non-recoverable. I don’t want WP.com anymore, but I don’t want to lose my websites. WP.com doesn’t have an actual help/chat, so i hope i can get an accurate answer here.

    WP.com: Yes
    Jetpack: No
    Correct account: Yes

    Hey there, you can delete the free WordPress.com sites without affecting your sites that are not hosted here. Head to My Site > Settings, select the site, and scroll to the bottom to find the delete option. Just note the URL will be gone and impossible to reregister.

    I’d recommend against deleting your account though, as you are using it for Jetpack and possibly other services provided by Automattic. If you can let us know why you want to delete the account, perhaps we can help with that?

    Thank you for your reply. Actually when i was writing this, i did not see the yes/no option for Jetpack which I do have, But I do not have active on either of my rebuilt sites. I have completely rebuilt both sites and they have always been on Hostinger, not on WordPress.com. My rebuilt sites do not have any WordPress.com or Jetpack plugins installed and I have received email telling me that my sites cannot be backed up to WP.com therefore I assumed that there would be no problem deleting these sites from WordPress.com… but deleting connected services always makes me nervous as you never know what could break. I want to cancel the account because I’ve had the master account for 7 years and the 2 subscription for a year, and never really used it. I did not use Jetpack due to the amazing complication (for me) of all the plugins. I don’t forsee that I will all-of-a-sudden start using it, so there is no point in paying for it if I’m not using it. I realize that I only have 2 sites, but is it also annoying to pay full price per website i.e. no package deals.

    I look forward to your additional comments on whether there will be any complications to cancelling my account.

    Hi there,

    If you were to close your account, it would only remove the Jetpack connection to your site, and the cloud-based functionality that is included in that plugin.

    In this case it sounds like you have already removed the Jetpack plugin from your sites, so if you close your account on this end it would not affect your sites at as they are now, and nothing would change.
