    Hi Katelon,

If you delete the images from the media library they will be removed from the posts. It may take a few days to take effect for you to notice since the change is not immediate. Basically the images you upload to WordPress are stored on their servers. When you or anyone else view your posts, the browser tries to reference those images. If they are removed from the media library, it will have nothing to display. Hope that helps!

Thanks, I was afraid of that. Thanks for responding.

    Hi

The above information is a big problem for me. I have a blog, petuniacat.wordpress.com that’s for posting multipanel cartoons. And that’s all. So I think I’m going to use up my media library space really soon. Is there a way to post more pictures? Other than getting a self hosted site. This is a small hobby, I can’t afford that. Thx.

Do you know how much space you have used thus far? Free WordPress.com sites have 3gb of free space. To check how much space you’ve used you can go to your Dashboard and it will be displayed under the “At A Glance” section under “Storage Space.” Alternatively you can go to Media Library and it will tell you how much space you have used.

The best way to free up space is to decrease the size of your images before you upload them. This will maximize the amount of space you have because large images can add up fast. For more information on that see this link:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/media/image-optimization/

Although if you are already full, optimizing the new images you upload will only take you so far. In that case you would have to go back and lower the size of the old images as well.

There are other options such as upgrading to Premium or Business which give you access to more space. (I know you said cost as being an issue but I thought I would just mention it anyways so you knew all of your options.) The link below gives more details on increasing space and other alternatives. Towards the bottom of the page, Flickr is given as one of the routes you can take if you want to host your pictures externally. I believe they give you 1 terabyte of space for free.

Hopefully that answered your question. :)
