  Also, I’ve seen a couple of wordpress.com blogs that have ads. What’s the deal with that?

  Ads are not allowed on blogs, even domain mapped ones. Sorry.

  Some of the very, very popular blogs, such as Cheezburger, have the VIP upgrade and are allowed advertising.
