If I don't like it can I switch back?

  • Unknown's avatar

    I currently have an older theme (Quentin) on my blog pastperiodspress.com. I am considering a theme update, but I am concerned that Quentin is not listed as an available theme – if I don’t like the new one I’d like to revert back to Quentin. Will this be possible? If so, where would I find it to select it?

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    This question has been previously asked and answered. You can relax. The older theme is available here > Appearance > Themes, it’s just not available to new members.

    Sorry, I searched but didn’t find it. :-) Thank you!!

    No problem at all. I ♥ love ♥ being the bearer of good news. )

    Also, if you are currently using the theme, then you won’t see it as being a theme that is available for you to activate because the theme preview only shows other themes you might be able to try.

    Hm, actually now that I’ve read the other topic, it doesn’t really answer my question. Will I be able to select Quentin as a theme if I switch over to say, Choco, then decide I don’t like it? I’m thinking no. Is there a plan to create any other “vintage” looking themes?

  • Unknown's avatar

    My reading is “yes” you will be able to switch back to it and use it but if your want confirmation on that form Themes Staff we can flag this thread and have it moved to the Themes Forum where you can get a definitive answer. I’m flagging this thread for Staff attention. :)

    Thank you thank you! I appreciate it.

    You’re welcome. :)

    I will add that I was able to switch from another theme on my test blog (morning after to be specific) to Quentin with no problem.

    The theme itself has not been eliminated: if you are currently using it, then you won’t see it as being available just because you are already using it. Theme previews only show which themes are available for you to activate. If you are already using a theme, then it is not a theme available for you to change to because you are currently using it.

    @mrsmarvel
    IMO
    If you are interested in experimenting with other themes, then you should set up a test blog: make a new private blog with another name. something like “testmrsmarvel”

    You can even export/import your original blog into the new blog (keeping it private) so that you can change themes as often as you like in order to determine if you want to activate another theme for your primary blog.

    I haven’t changed back before so this may sound like a silly question, but where would I find it if I do want to change back? :-) I have always liked the updates I have done, but this particular site isn’t just mine to play with, there are others involved.

    I agree that every blogger needs a test blog and a mirror blog and I have even blogged on how to set a mirror blog up.

    @mrsmarvel
    If you are not the only administrator, then you should check with the others who make your blog. But you can, on your own, set up a test blog to see what a new theme would look like.
    If you are the only admin, then you can change themes anytime.
    Dashboard—>Appearance—>Themes—>Preview or Activate
    To change themes, follow that, and to change back, do the same.

    A secondary test blog can be extremely useful in any case, though.

    You have both been very helpful. Thank you very much! I will do as you suggest and create a private test blog to fuss with these themes.

    Oh, well. If you change to another theme, then the theme you were using before will be available to activate again. (except for a couple of themes that have been deleted, not including Quentin.)

    Yes, a test blog is a great way to experiment with possibilities without messing up your “real” blog.
