If I host my own WordPress website (from a hosting provider), do I still need to pay premium to uplo

Like the title says. I’m going to help someone set up their website. He isr a personal trainer. Problem is, WordPress has changed A LOT since I used it last many years ago, and now I see all kinds of monthly billings with different features. My one problem is, he wants a custom theme we found on ThemeForest, but for him it’s too expensive plan just to have the option to upload a custom theme. So what I was looking at next, is using a hosting provider that installs WordPress for us on the database under the custom domain. And if we went this way, do we still need to pay the WordPress Business to be able to use the theme we’re going to buy? Or can we upload the theme to our database and use it this way?

I remember years back when I was using that hosting provider, I simply installed WordPress through FTP for my own website, and I could simply from there do what ever I wanted, without needing to pay anything premium. I could upload and customize premium themes I already bought, and have full freedom. This doesn’t seem to be the thing anymore.

    Best,
    Daniel

    Hello Daniel,
If you use another hosting provider, you would not pay for the WordPress.com Business Plan. The method you are familiar with from years ago still works with other hosts, just not with WordPress.com hosted sites.
