If I move my domain to GoDaddy, will the balance of Domain Mapping still apply?

I am considering transferring my domain sentientmouse.com to GoDaddy (that’s where I have all of my other private domains) so that I can have mailboxes associated with sentientmouse.com. I paid for Domain Mapping back in August and I’m not sure what will happen if I transfer the domain registration away from WordPress? Will the Domain Mapping that I paid for still work until August? I still want that upgrade and will renew in August, but I just want to house all of my domains together and be able to set up POP3 accounts for sentientmouse.com.

    Many thanks,
    Mark

Your domain mapping will still work as long as you keep the name servers pointing to WordPress.COM.

Hmmm…. I don’t think that that will allow me to have an MX record that points to GoDaddy’s POP3 server. What would happen if I didn’t point my name servers to wordpress.com, but pointed my A record to WordPress’ server? Or what if I forwarded to WordPress?
I’m just trying to figure out how to get e-mail addresses at my domain name.

    Many thanks,
    Mark

The nameservers control where traffic for the domain goes using DNS. If you are moving from WordPress.com to a self-hosted WordPress.org blog, you can enter the nameservers provided by your web hosting company to switch your domain to their hosting service. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/domain-management/#update-nameservers

Godaddy email is a bit tricky but it can be done – does not matter where your domain name is registered

I have domain mapping for my site – my domain name is not registered at WordPress.COM and I use an A record and MX record with my domain mapping to make the email work at my old host’s mail server.

I’ve actually gotten this to work. My name servers are still the WordPress ones, but I went into Edit DNS and in the Custom DNS Records window, I put two MX entries for GoDaddy’s e-mail servers. Now everything works perfectly :-)
