if i password protect a posting, do invites still get sent to followers
-
I’d like to let a couple of people review a draft I am about to publish it. I know I could publish it with a password, but I also know that when I publish a blog there is a bunch of automatic things happen, like invitations to my followers, a tweet on twitter, a post on facebook…
So what I need to know is two things:
1. Do all those automatic things happen if I publish with a password? If so, there will be a lot of disappointed followers who wont get to see my blog, and I’ll miss a lot of hits
2. If the automatic things DON’T happen, then later when I make the blog public, will the chain of automatic events happen then? The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Publicize will not fire with a Password Protected post. Email notifications will get sent out though. The content will read:
This post is password protected. You must visit the website and enter the password to continue reading.

No – I’m afraid Publicize will not run when you change the status of a post.
Rather than publishing the post as password protected, I think a better option would be to use the Writing Helper Request Feedback feature discussed here:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/writing-helper/request-feedback/
That way, you can request feedback without publishing the post. Would that work?

Jeremy, Thanks so much for getting back to me. The Writing Helper Request Feedback feature sounds EXACTLY like what I need.
But I have no idea how to activate it! This post (https://en.blog.wordpress.com/2011/04/27/writing-made-easy-writing-helper/) seems to suggest that
It’s a new box that appears underneath the edit box on the Add a Post Screen
. As if my magic!
However, what I see when I start a new blog is this:
https://mega.co.nz/#!rIA0UKIJ!1WSmlIY7woCjvwia3B33Q2G0KZ006zvZ8YhK53BTWdI
No Writing Helper to be seen! No Request Feedback option for me.
I’ve also gone to “Customize > Widgets” but cannot find either “Writing Helper” or “request feedback” as an addable widget! (See https://mega.co.nz/#!ORYi2YhZ!4tPVKlEMUAUjIuRUIj1t19Y01_vVraU6OGy6nJ493G4)
So are you able to tell me how to make the Writing Helper appear?. I’d be grateful if you could!

Addendum: This https://en.support.wordpress.com/writing-helper/ suggests that there should be a “Screen Options” menu that
can be found in the upper right corner of your Post Edit page.
But as my screen dump (https://mega.co.nz/#!rIA0UKIJ!1WSmlIY7woCjvwia3B33Q2G0KZ006zvZ8YhK53BTWdI) shows, there is no “Screen Options” in the upper right corner of my Post Edit page.
Thanks:

OK – FOund it. Boy that was hard! I didn’t realise that I had to go back to the OLD wordpress editing method!
https://mega.co.nz/#!WRwAmZzC!2Ltw5vpXuQR6ns6yD_t9NzSBiN3IFTccrbY2ZCPFlG8So I should update my http://rednectar.net/2014/08/17/wordpress-changed-their-editor-and-it-sucks/ post and add another “suck” reason!

Sorry for not clarifying! Yes – you would need to edit the post in wp-admin to see the Writing Helper. Let me know if you need anything else!
