if i register the .me/.com domain name will the wordpress address still work?

  don’t want to loose followers because of an address change.

  Yes, it will still work :) The Domain Registration and Mapping upgrade changes the URL that appears in visitors’ browsers, but you still have the underlying .wordpress.com address.
