If I upgrade from free will the links to my current pages from other sites be lost?

  If I upgrade from free wordpress.com blog will the links to my current pages from other sites be lost? What happens where I’m featured else where with published links to my existing blog and what happens to people following my current blog? Anyone know?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  I’m guessing you’re looking at getting a domain name? This should answer your question then:

  Adding a domain will change the URL (the links) to all your posts and pages. We will automatically redirect any visitors, but note that third-party services such as Twitter rely on the URL to measure activity. This may cause existing retweet counts to be reset to 0. Future posts will not be affected.

  Just want to clarify before I proceed. If I buy a domain for 24 per year does it automatically change on my blog or are there a bunch of steps involved. You already clarified it would automatically redirect – does that apply even if you don’t upgrade to premium and just purchase a domain? Appreciate your help.

  You need to buy both domain registration & Domain mapping for the custom domain name to work (should be included in the $26.-/yr thing) – – once you have it set up everything works like magic as soon as the changes migrate to the far corners of the internet (up to 24 to 72 hours for things to settle down)

  You need to go through in this order

  1) Domain name registration for the custom domain name

  2) Domain mapping for the custom domain name

  I think they are now sort of putting them together to make it easier – takes a few minutes – click on the links in your dashboard or I think they now have a second place you can buy upgrades – give WordPress.COM a bit of money and things start working – sort of like magic

  If you have trouble ask back here in the forum – if you want the staff to take a look at your account and such add the Tag modlook in the tags section of the right sidebar here and that will ask the staff for help
