If I upgrade I can change from a wordpress.com to a dot.com?

  I want to ensure that I can remove the word “wordpress” from my website address. I don’t see it listed as a bullet item in the Upgrade package.

  Yes, the domain mapping upgrade allows you to use a custom domain as your blog’s URL, rather than your .wordpress.com address.

  Keep in mind that you will still have an underlying .wordpress.com address that your domain is mapped to and which only you will be able to see via your administrative pages.
