If I upgrade my site to use a custom Domain will my old wordpress.com work still
-
If I upgrade my site to my own domain name would my old url still work? In other words I have the URL http://www.thebluecollarfoodie.wordpress.com on my business cards and I have quite a bit of them left. If I upgrade would that site still function and point my audience towards my new domain or would I have to upgrade my business cards?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The original URL will keep working – no need to upgrade your business cards – every original link will still work
The only change is that visitors will see the new custom domain name in their browser address area –
You will still log into and Post from thebluecollarfoodie.wordpress.com/ dashboard that you do today – same Terms of Service – still hosted here – just the displayed name changes

Hello,
I definitely understand your concern. The good news is, when you use a custom domain name your old http://yourname.wordpress.com URL will redirect to http://yourcustomdomain.com.

Thanks for the responses! My second question would be if I upgrade can I use paid themes and ad programs such as google ad sense?
-
Third party advertising (like Google AdSense) is not allowed for sites hosted on WordPress.com (more info here). WordPress.com does offer a service called WordAds for sites that receive higher levels of traffic, though.
In regards to paid themes, you can check out Premium Themes.

Okay so here is my last one. I have a wordpress.com site, I want to start using ads in order to gain some revenue with my brand. Is there a way to do this, perhaps transferring to wordpress.org or something, that will keep my links active and my URL up and running without switching everything to a new site with my own domain. Thanks again man sorry to bother you.

Third party advertising isn’t allowed on sites that are hosted on WordPress.com. You can visit the Advertising page in the support docs for more information.
If you wanted to move to a self hosted installation (that uses the software available at WordPress.org), you would be able to integrate advertising. To do this, you would need to sign up for hosting and then migrate your site. You can read Moving a Blog for more information.
If you are nervous about doing moving the site by yourself, you can purchase a Guided Transfer. Then you’ll have a Happiness Engineer to help you throughout the process.
I hope this helps!

Note two things, however:
1) most blogs with fewer than a thousand hits don’t make enough on ads to pay the expense of hosting them
2) if yours is a business blog, why would you use the platform for YOUR business to advertise someone else’s? It makes you look unprosperous and desperate, not a great combination. The best business blog in the world, I think, is Guy Kawasaki’s, and the only ads he has on his page are for companies that he has money in.
