how do I find someone? Is there a list??? Are their linked people. Do the free template designers do such things?

There are three options at wordpress when it comes to personalizing themes. Two options are wordpress.com options and one is the wordpress.org option of, in your case, hiring a web host. Please read about them here http://wordpress.com/forums/topic.php?id=6406&replies=9
There is no internal “list” of designers that I am aware of. If you are looking for css customized themes then there are several available. However I think you should ask yourself this: what useful purpose will they serve to have a theme customized if I lack the skill to upgrade and maintain it? I bring this up because I can’t help but notice that this is also almost a duplicate post to the one I answered for you before here http://wordpress.com/forums/topic.php?id=6496&replies=3#post-41985 And I’m thinking that perhaps you should consider hiring a web host and having your host download a blog template from wordpress.orgThe links to available customized themes are located in the css customization forum and not in the support forum. Customization will still not allow you to use javascript (re: the other two threads you posted that sunburntkamel and I answered) as we are on a shared multi-user blogging platform here at wordpress.com.

Sorry for duplicating, I guess I am just trying to get it straight. I followed some links from earlier answers and was able to make some changes – that of course I couldn’t save. Maybe I’m ready to purchase the upgrade and just get going. Of course, I suppose, I’ll have more questions. I have a pic in my head of what I want it to look like and what I want to include on my blog…..not just to bring that to fruition! I’ll look for your links and will try to find the customization forum in addition :)
