  … would I be able to hide the one from the other? I mean, I wouldn’t necessarily want anyone who’s read my main blog to know I kept the other – not that I’d mind them reading it, I’d just prefer them not to know it was me at the keyboard behind it, if you see what I mean. So if I set up a second blog on my account, would they be irrevocably linked? Would a determined stalker-type be able to connect the two through my username, or something eminently simple like that (or something difficult, I don’t know)?

  Yes, a determined stalker-type person would. You could keep them completely separate by signing up with two different email addresses.
