If I’ve downloaded a theme, how do I use it?
-
I’ve finally found a theme that I like and would love to use, but I have no clue how. I am one of those people who needs the step by step on this sorta thing if you know what I mean. I downloaded a theme from http://themes.wordpress.net/, and its in a file, hasn’t been extracted or even touched. I would like to know how to use this file, and if so exactly how do I go about doing so?

You cannot install independent themes on your WordPress.com blog. We can only choose from the templates on our Presentation page, because of our shared blogging backbone. Those themes are for independently-hosted blogs using WordPress software.
The best recommendation I have is that if you are skilled at using CSS, you can attempt to duplicate the look of that theme if you purchase the CSS upgrade. If you don’t know how to use CSS, don’t buy the upgrade. There is no support system in place to teach CSS.

You can also make a theme request, being as specific as possible about why you like the theme and think it superior to your existing options, by sending a direct link to the theme using your Feedback button.
