If you upgrade your website to a paid domain, will your unpaid domain still work?
-
For example, if right now you have website.wordpress.com as your website. People can type that into a search bar to get to you.
Let’s say you buy a premium account, and then go on a site like godaddy and you register the web address website.com, and then connect that to your wordpress site. Now, if people go into the search bar and type website.com, it’ll take them to your site.
Will it STILL take them to your site if they type website.wordpress.com?
I’m asking because I want to upgrade my site but I have sent some people the website.wordpress.com address. I would like to know that the people with that address will still be able to access the site even if it upgrades.

Yes. Using a link to or typing the .wordpress.com address will send people straight to the new address.
PS: Why go to GoDaddy for a domain when one would be included free for the first year right here with a paid plan. -
Thank you for the answer! And thank you for the info. I’ll have to look into a domain purchased through wordpress

Hi @mssunnymuffins to clarify, a free domain is included in all our plans (for the first year) so you can get a domain by upgrading to any of the following:

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
