This is a multiuser blogging platform and that means our blogs share a common architecture. Without doubt iframes are a known security risk and allowing them here at WordPress.com would compromise our security. One wonky unstable iframe could bring down many blogs.

It’s also not just a trust issue – everyone makes a programming error from time to time, some with iframe’s and script can be real deadly and take down more than just their own site. Problems can also be hard to troubleshoot, so, good bad or otherwise, WordPress.COM has decided to error on the side of reliability & security. They have also setup the architecture to make it easy for the staff to maintain the system which means we all share common files and systems.

If it is a security threat then why do other hosting sites allow it?
