Illegal ad on my website
-
Hello – I found an ad for piracy on my website which was pointed out to me by a potential client. Obviously, this doesn’t make me look professional as tarnishes my reputation, especially as I work in a creative industry. Please can you let me know how to remove it and also let me know how this could get past security. In the meantime, I’ve disabled my website as I couldn’t have it showing this ad. Thanks. Kim

I’ve disabled my website as I couldn’t have it showing this ad
thisisin3.wordpress.com. still displays just fine. What is the address of the WordPress.com site you are having problems with? Note that staff here can’t help with sites hosted elsewhere:

Hi there
My website is hosted on WordPress and the address is http://www.thisisin3.com. The domain is hosted by GoDaddy.
When I last checked, in the first section where it says ‘This is IN3’ on a white background, there was an ad underneath it promoting piracy. Please can you verify this has been removed and let me know how to prevent these illegal ads from appearing on my site in the future.
Many Thanks,
Kim

it seems your site is no longer online, “Welcome to thisisin3.com, This Web page is parked for FREE, courtesy of GoDaddy.com.”

Hi there,
Thanks for getting in touch.
Yes I can see that you have a website currently hosted with WordPress.com: http://thisisin3.wordpress.com/.
Can I confirm two things from you:
1. Are you currently on a free or paid plan? All paid WordPress.com plans have the ability to remove advertising from your website. WordPress.com will never place advertisements on your site if you disable that feature.
2. Have you mapped your custom domain name (http://www.thisisin3.com/) to your WordPress.com account yet? Your domain name is currently set as the landing page for GoDaddy’s services, but that’s the normal “parked” page you see when your domain isn’t assigned to any server or service.
If you haven’t mapped your domain name, review this support article for a step-by-step guide: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/.
Also, I’ll point out one other thing. If you’re on a free plan, advertisements can be displayed from a number of advertising partners. This, as WordPress says, is to help “pay the bills” for their free services. Plus all advertisements are screened, and WordPress.com doesn’t endorse any advertisements you may see. But with any advertisement agency, cookies and tracking can be enabled which can result in you seeing advertisements for content and sites that seem odd.
I’d recommend you read this support article to understand how WordPress.com uses advertisements on customers websites: https://en.support.wordpress.com/no-ads/.
Let me know how you get on.
Thanks,
Zac.

Hello there, if your site was a free site hosted here on WordPress.com or was a self-hosted site with the jetpack plugin installed and WordAds enabled on your site, if you ran across an objectionable ad displaying on your site, you can take a screenshot of it so that Staff can investigate. Automattic has no interest to promote illegal or disreputable businesses.
Since you took your site thisisin3.com offline I do not know if Staff can assist, but I’ve gone ahead and tagged this thread for their attention. Thanks for your patience while they get back to you.
Obviously if you were neither hosted here on WordPress.com nor part of the WordAds network for self-hosted sites, there’s nothing that Staff here can do to assist with this issue.

Hi folks, sorry for the confusion. Here’s what I’m seeing:
– There is a site at WordPress.com: thisisin3.wordpress.com
– Aside from similar names, it’s unrelated to the site at GoDaddy
– As far as I can see, thisisin3.com is not using WordAds, Jetpack, or any of our services
@thisisin3, do you need help with the site that is hosted here with us? Or were you looking for help with your own installation of WordPress.org at GoDaddy? For help with your installation, you’ll want to use https://wordpress.org/support . Generally though I would suggest disabling your ad plugins rather than the entire site, until you’re able to figure out what’s wrong.
Good luck!
