I still cant seem to get “portfolio Projects” on the side bar So frustrating.

Hi all, hope someone can help!

Can a POST be added to a PORTFOLIO project?
I like this template of having the portfolio as a static page, and can help organise posts for readers under such tiles.

I can see how you can add a [portfolio] link into a post, but not the other way around.

    Any help would be incredible!

    I am really struggling :(
I’ve never done anything like this before and I can’t seem to make anything work.
I’ve managed to create the static homepage, but can’t for the life of me get anything to show up on it! I have tried to get a side bar (added widgets for about me and categories) and nothing has come up, and I’ve also tried to add my posts to my static homepage and nothing has come up :(
    I don’t know what I’m doing wrong!

    Hi Everyone!

    Please see below:

    @anonymousartist14

What do all the Formats mean?? i.e.
    Standard
    Aside
    Image
    Video
    Quote
    Link
    Gallery
    Status
    Audio

Those don’t apply to Portfolio items. They only apply to specific posts. You can read more about that here:

    Post Formats

I am looking for a way that i can add a project which will open my blog page. Or is there a way that i can connect a page to a project?

You can’t connect a page directly to a project per se (in the fashion that clicking on the project image opens up a different page). By default, projects and pages are completely separate.

One thing you could do would be to insert a link into the project linking folks to a particular page.

It seems like you have switched away from the Illustratr theme. If you would like to give this another try, I’m happy to help you out with this!

    @jagdisjethva

I am using the illustrator theme and I want all my posts to be displayed when i click to a portfolio named ‘Read My Stuff’ which is at my homepage.

    Get inside what you like

I’ve set static page as ‘portfolio page template’ and created one page named ‘Read’ which is selected as ‘post page’ in settings –> reading.

How can I get the posts..??

The portfolio projects cannot be linked to other pages (like your page titled “Read”). When clicked, portfolio items open up the individual portfolio item page.

I believe what you’re looking for is to keep the Illustratr layout without using portolio items (posts instead). Is that correct?

That isn’t possible with the Illustratr theme. However, Oslo has a similar format that works with posts:

It looks like you might have started to get the hang of this! I’m currently seeing items on your home page when I visit your site. Can you let me know if you’re still having trouble?

Regarding the widgets, they’re in a closed panel by default at the bottom of your site. You can see them by clicking the icon shown here:

    @maurobelardi50

I’m using Illustratr theme set on ‘static page’ and I would like to change the white page that comes with it (that is the one surrounding the header, the pages menu and the portfolio) with a customized image but I can’t find a way to do that either in the ‘customize’ options menu or in the dashboard.

Are you referring to http://lucabelardi.com/? If so, could you clarify what you mean by “white page”?

When clicking on any of my portfolio’s projects on the landing page, WordPress opens the content in a new window; this is a preview page before the viewer will be sent to a full size image gallery. In the preview window all the images uploaded appear to be untidily scattered as it seems that, due to their different sizes, Illustratr is not able to re-size the thumbnails in to tidily organized rows (as it does it in the Dashboard>Portfolio>EDIT GALLERY section).
As, of course, I can’t re-size or crop the original images for the sake of having a nicer preview page:
Is there a way to organize or skip this untidy preview?

No, there is not. The “preview” window is opening the actual project. Then, by clicking an individual image, you’re opening up the gallery.

One possible suggestion would be to change the gallery type to a more uniform option:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/gallery/#gallery-styles

For example, you could try something like “Square Tiles”.

Hi All, I’m having difficulty enabling portfolio options for the Illustratr theme. I followed the instructions (http://en.support.wordpress.com/portfolios/); however, I couldn’t find the “portfolio projects” option. The “your custom content types” didn’t show up under my “writing” menu under “settings”. Does anyone know how I can get the option to show up? Thanks!

    Hi koko8puff!

The portfolio post type is already enabled on both of your blogs with the Illustratr theme active:

    • brontebag.wordpress.com
    • babyunicornsleapingoverrainbow.wordpress.com

If you’re still having trouble, could you open a new support request?

    Hi Jeremey!

My question is regarding site http://www.biblestoryboards.com/. I would like to set up pages “Bible Storyboard 1”, “Bible Storyboard 2” and “Bible Storyboard 3” to show up as portfolio projects on Page “Bible Storyboard”.

I have selected portfolio page template for the aforementioned pages. But as you can see on http://www.biblestoryboards.com/bible-storyboards/, I can’t get the pictures to show up as tiles next to each other.

    Thanks for helping.

I really cannot understand why NO ONE, including the developers who made this theme, have not stated the bleeding obvious!!

To get all the features you need to install the jetpack plugin – https://wordpress.org/plugins/jetpack/

I have installed this after 4 hours researching and finally figuring it out.

    Enjoy :)

@koko8puff – Please open a new support request, and we’ll be happy to help!

@taymoorlondon – The Jetpack plugin is only required for self-hosted blogs, not on WordPress.com blogs. This forum is for blogs hosted at WordPress.com. The Jetpack plugin is required to activate the portfolio post type on your self-hosted site.
