Illustratr like demo

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi I have 2 questions.

    1. How do I get my front page to look like the demo for Illustratr.

I have 3 pages created. Is there a way to have them show up on that front page with the pics like it shows on the demo?

    2. Is there a way to have images in a post or page be in a slideshow?

So basically on the front page of my blog I want 3 images – 1 for each of the different categories of photography sessions I do. Then when people click on the picture it will take you to a slideshow for that category.

    Thanks for your help!

First of all you’ve got to use a theme with the Portfolio Page Template option and assign your selected portfolio page to that template. Next, make that your static front page at Reading Settings. Finally, the portfolio page template displays projects, not pages. You’ve got to create projects, which are actually more like posts than pages as they have categories (called “types”), and tags.

Yes. See the Slideshow support page: http://en.support.wordpress.com/slideshows/. You can link from an image to a page containing a slideshow by adding a link with the “Insert/edit link” module. That module may be accessed by first clicking on the embedded image, then clicking the “Insert/edit link” icon in the post or page editor toolbar. Alternatively, you may add a link at the time you upload the an image as described in the Image Links support page.

Regarding your second question, since there is no way to add a link to a featured image (short of CSS customization perhaps) and portfolios use featured the method I described above is irrelevant. However, it’s also unnecessary since the featured image is already a link to the project, and your projects may contain slide shows.

The method I describe in the previous post can be used for all images which are embedded in posts or pages, but not for gallery images or featured images. You can also link from text and image widgets (in sidebars, footer area, etc.) to slide shows.

    Correction to previous post:
By “portfolios use featured,” I meant that a portfolio uses the featured images assigned to its projects as the grid images. These grid images are links to the projects.

  • Hi harnita24! I had a look at your site, but it appears that you’ve changed themes. Would you still like some help with the Illustratr theme, or are you all set?
