Illustratr: set layout of footer?

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m creating a new (currently private) blog using the Illustratr theme. I’ve set a number of widgets into the footer area but can see no way of specifying how they are laid out. Can anyone help?
    TIA, Tony.

  • You can reorder these widget panels as well — hover over one and mouse-click to select and drag it up or down, depending on where you’d like it to display. After making your changes, don’t forget to save them by hitting the blue Save & Publish button at the top of the panel. You can read more about WordPress.com widgets here. https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/

Also just to add to @strikebuys input, specifically with the Illustratr theme, the footer menu is initially hidden.

Hidden footer area that is revealed by the + button at the bottom of each page

When customizing, be sure to click that + sign to expand the footer and you’ll see how your widgets are laid out.

Thanks both. I have ordered them but the order means the system tries to lay them out across the three columns, 1,2,3/4,5,6/7…, adding more items into columns that are less filled until that column is lower than others. But I’d like to specify exactly what goes in each column regardless of how much room it takes up. Is this not possible?

I see what you mean. I’m thinking this might be part of the theme’s responsive design of trying to balance out the footer so that there aren’t any uneven areas.

If that’s the case, using Custom CSS to adjust the positioning of the widget elements could be a viable solution to achieve the exact layout you want. So if you have a Premium plan and are also comfortable working with CSS, we could go from there.

Otherwise, I don’t think there’s a way to change this behavior (or at least I’m not aware of one).

Thanks Paulo, that’s what I suspected from looking at the source code. This site isn’t premium so I’ll just shuffle the order of widgets until I get something I can live with.

    Thanks, everyone.
