Consult the detailed theme description page at http://en.wordpress.com/themes/illustratr/
Portfolio Page Template
Does this help? https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/heres-how-to-make-portfolio-front-page?replies=1 -
Thanks timethief,
I’ve gone through the theme spec page and the steps in the forum, but the problem is that the portfolio page simply *does not show up* in the drop-down list of static pages.
It may be because under Dashboard -> Appearance -> Menus, Projects is listed as separate from Pages. I’ve tried switching to the Espied theme but the problem persists.
The Portfolio option shows up on the website, but I can’t touch it from the Dashboard.I even tried making a link item (column on the left at Dashboard -> Appearance -> Menus), but that doesn’t show up in the drop-down list, either.
Would it help if I cleared my portfolio and re-loaded everything?
Appreciate any assistance with this, thanks!

ps: I also tried the troubleshooting step at the bottom of this page http://en.support.wordpress.com/portfolios/

Hi timethief,
The answer was in today’s post on the new Sketch portfolio theme
http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2014/08/14/new-theme-sketch/http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/sketch/
in the section titled Portfolio Page Template,
“Create or edit a page, and assign it to the Portfolio Page Template from the Page Attributes module” which is to the right of the Page Edit window in the Dashboard. Thanks for following up & have a gorgeous day!

I’m glad you got this sorted. I was going to point out that you have to actually create a page in order for it to appear correctly for you.
Thrilled it’s working right now!

Me too!
I really enjoy the attention to detail in the new portfolio themes, like the rounded corners on featured images in Sketch.
I’ve noticed, though, that in both Illustratr and Sketch, pdfs display as broken images, and that while it’s easy to create galleries and slideshows, editing them requires deleting and start over. It’s not a huge deal for me, but a fix would probably be appreciated by folks with a ton of images.

I’ll have to ask around, but I’m not sure that PDFs were meant to be included in quite that way. I think they were still seen as being document based, instead of their other use as a means by which you can display other media. I will talk to some people though and see if they realize that there are more uses.
Thanks for pointing this out! Have a good one!

That totally makes sense — I didn’t include any in my portfolio page but noticed that the pdfs don’t show up in my blog archives since I switched. I think I was using Twenty Twelve before.
Thanks for getting back to me and much appreciation to all the Automatticians for the stellar work!
