I'm a newb…

Ok so I’m coming back into web creation after a 10 year hiatus. I bought a domain, and then I wanted to create a website using WordPress. I paid for the premium version $99/year. I then went and bought a subscription of “Startup Hosting” ($47.40/year) through SiteGround for the hosting.

I want to make this site into a regular blog with links to other websites and include ads, etc. Not a huge site right of the bat, but I want to see where it goes. Also I obviously want my domain to be the domain rather then include “LLLLLLL.wordpress.com.

The question is do I really need SiteGround?? I bought SiteGround for hosting and WordPress to build the site but I realized when I bought WordPress it has hard drive space in the specs, therefore isn’t that considered hosting?

You can use either the Premium Plan on hosted WordPressdotcom or the standalone WP (org) software on SiteGround.

What you need depends on what you want to do with your site. This Support doc explains the differences between WordPressdotcom (where we are) and standalone WP software: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
