I'm getting a privacy error!

  • Unknown's avatar

For my website thirstywanderer.com, my computer keeps saying ‘This server could not prove that it is http://www.thirstywanderer.com; its security certificate expired 9 days ago. This may be caused by a misconfiguration or an attacker intercepting your connection. Your computer’s clock is currently set to Tuesday, October 3, 2017. Does that look right? If not, you should correct your system’s clock and then refresh this page.’ The date and time are correct, so I’m not sure how to get access back to my website.

    Hey @hgoode18,

I took a look at your site: thirstywanderercom.wordpress.com and it looks good from my end.

However, looking at your http://www.thirstywanderer.com. It seems that your SSL certificate is not configured correctly. Is this site hosted with wordpress.com or is this self hosted?

If it’s self hosted please submit your issue to the wordpress.org forums as this forum is only for sites hosted with wordpress.com

  • Hello @hgoode18,

I checked your website and the live site is still active. The error message you get has a connection to your SSL. Did you have SSL installed for your website? The live site doesn’t show that anymore, but when tried to get into the WP Admin page, it auto directs to https://www.thirstywanderer.com/wp-admin/ (with SSL), so it was set up with SSL. There’s a big possibility that your SSL has been inactive and so you’re getting that error when you tried to get into the login page.

It also shows that your website is a self-hosted (BlueHost) WordPress.ORG site.

You can contact BlueHost to temporarily update your URL from https to http, so you can access it. Then, you can also seek help from them regarding your SSL.

This forum is for users with websites hosted by WordPress.COM.

You can also find more help from this forum.

See more information about the difference from this link.

    Regards,
    Rose
